Pack your own wellbeing for the big getaway

March 2023 is upon us, and Easter is only around a month ahead.

Plans to see family and friends may have now been firmed up in the diary, ready for the big getaway by car, train or plane. It won’t be long before you’re thinking about what to pack, and wondering if you’ll have space for everything. However, one of the most important things to consider (and bring with you) is your own physical wellbeing, and this might not have made your packing list yet.

We have looked at one of our popular physiotherapy blogs from June 2021 (with a small update!) which is both topical and informative for those making plans for around a month’s time.

You’ll never make the journey without physiotherapy!

One of my clients planned a car journey to North Yorkshire from Guildford for a long overdue visit to see elderly relatives. The client has been in our care for some time, with one focus point being the left hip and leg, which will in the future require more invasive medical procedures to keep pain under control.

Regular consultation and physiotherapy care

The routines of life meant that the discomfort in the leg could be managed through regular consultation and a programme of physiotherapy, coupled with acupuncture. Indeed, the addition of acupuncture in the earlier part of 2021 had helped the pain well, with the client feeling great relief through the progress made.

Discomfort could be managed

The decision to see relatives was planned carefully, with an anticipated car journey of five hours, the driver preferring not to stop to get the travel out of the way. The tension in the leg and hip was ever evident and normally this would not be a problem, until the thought of the car journey came into sharp focus. ‘You’ll never make the journey without physiotherapy!’ was the thought: the telephone number of Life Made Simple was dialled and a prompt appointment booked the afternoon before leaving to ensure that the discomfort could be managed.

The client reported on their return that it worked very well. It is always great to get such positive feedback on both physiotherapy and the tangible and positive effects of acupuncture.

The effects of sitting still for a long time are well documented and more from the NHS can be found on this topic here: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/why-sitting-too-much-is-bad-for-us/

Taking this important topic further, Spine Health also features an article on this topic, with some useful help here: https://www.spine-health.com/blog/7-tips-alleviate-back-pain-your-road-trips
