Spring Soldier!

Updated: Apr 22, 2021

Our blog pages have been a great success and we have looked back at some of the best or most topical blogs (in this case the end of September 2020, which now seems like a decade ago!) to maintain and add to their relevance to the physiotherapy care offered by Life Made Simple Physiotherapy.

Spring is naturally a time when most of us get a little more active, or at least try to spend more time outside, and with it can come strains on the body and muscles, that might have been somewhat dormant during the winter months. A client once described themselves as a ‘summer soldier’, having strained themselves whilst undertaking very physical work in the garden over a spring weekend. The minds idea of what could be achieved, and their body’s ability to achieve the task at hand were not in agreement.

Property moves have been highly topical in the last few months because of Stamp Duty savings and having moved into a new home, our client had exchanged their desk-bound work for an intense weekend of renovations. Here at Life Made Simple, we provide professional physiotherapy in Guildford and Surrey. Furthermore, we aim to make sure you are fit and ready for any unsuspected strain you put on your body.

DIY may be more costly than you think!

With the dust settling on the slightly traumatic move, Friday night had seen the start of the determined plan to deal with identified problems over a weekend. They had endeavoured to correct various issues with the fabric of the house that had been identified in the house survey, just as the autumn brought cooler temperatures. Indeed, I understand that it became a ‘to do’ list of what was likely to leak over the winter.

With various DIY jobs in part complete, the moving of a log pile under cover single handed was the final straw for our client’s frame, and something gave. ‘Just work through it’ was the grimace, noting that Monday morning saw a significant impairment in mobility.

With painkillers administered by their GP, the ‘spring soldier’ was no more, as they sought physiotherapy care for the strains they had placed on their body in the 48-hour battle with their new home.

Worth the aches and pain?

Sure, the house was dryer, but was it worth the aches and pain? No, in this case, and it highlighted to us the need for individuals to stay supple, fit and to undertake some stretching exercises before getting involved in such physical tasks, particularly if they are desk bound in their normal working week.

Holistic approach to movement

We believe that physiotherapy is about a holistic approach to movement and physical wellbeing. Exercise in general, along with specifically recommended exercises, plays an important part in helping with the daily tasks that we ask of the body, its muscles and its tissues.

Warming up with appropriate stretches can help the body be ready for the tasks ahead.
